The Soundcity MVP Awards 2023 took place at Eko Hotel on February 11th and everyone was a VIP, at least that was what the tickets said, the VIP tickets were for the people standing in front of the stage, now that is a little unusual for award shows but I see what they did there, you actually saw it too but didn’t think much to it, it’s called ‘’Soundcity MVP Award Festival’’, you stand at most festivals my guy, imagine how boring it would look if the traditional dancers at Calabar festival were sitting, the standing VIP’s were important to make it a festival.
The black carpet was pretty VIP for both the VIPs and the VVIPs even though it was only the VVIPs that got to sit, there was a variety of free drinks and snacks for everyone, the different stands and sets put together by the numerous brands and media sponsors really made the place look magical, it was like I was on Aladdin’s magic carpet, I mean what else is more magical than the taste and aroma of free cold drinks.
The stage lights, the sound, and the screens were superb and electrifying but that wasn’t a shock to anybody, the Soundcity MVP Award Festival has always had a reputation for its smooth production. A number of the artists that won awards didn’t show up but they were lots of amazing performances from Nigerian artistes and artistes from other African countries so I think it was a great experience for both the VIPs and VVIPs, the presence or lack of chairs couldn’t take that away.
