The race has officially begun. Summer is coming and pretty much everyone is still conflicted over the perfect summer song. Normally, it wouldn’t be this difficult, however, since we spent the past year stuck inside and everywhere is opening up slowly, we can’t help but get excited as we all prepare for summer. We need that perfect song that resonates with us. There are a couple of songs that many of us can’t just get over.

BTS’ “Butter” is ranked No. 1 on Billboard’s “Songs of Summer Survey,” followed by Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” at No. 2 and Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” at No. 3. Justin Bieber’s “Peaches,” with Daniel Caesar and Giveon, comes in at No. 4, and Silk Sonic’s “Leave the Door Open,” featuring Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak, rounds out the top five.

A quick insight into the songs:

BTS – Butter

This song has been steady at No 1 for three consecutive weeks. The song has a catchy energetic tune that hooks you right away. The ideal song gets you pumped up and doesn’t let go until it’s finished. It’s got a wonderful beat to it, and we can sing along to it!!!! When BTS declared they were producing the perfect summer anthem, they weren’t kidding; their song is indeed “Smooth as Butter.” It’s a song I definitely put on repeat.

Olivia Rodirigo – Good 4 U

For weeks, this song ruled the charts. Falling behind to No. 2 after Butter, the song appears to be on its way back to the top. What the majority like about the song is the fact that it is relatable to almost anyone. It also evokes nostalgia in the majority of people. The song transports us to a simpler time in our lives when life was easier. To put it another way, it transports us to the Nickelodeon and Disney eras that we all long for, making us feel carefree and childlike. It significantly increases people’s energy levels. It’s easy to see why people connect with it.

Dua Lipa – Levitating (ft. DaBaby)

Despite the fact that Dua Lipa and Dababy were on the Hot 100 for 36 weeks, it’s gaining more attention these days. This music makes you feel like you’re on vacation at the beach, having a good time with your friends. It doesn’t appear to be going anywhere anytime soon.

Justin Bieber – Peaches (ft. Giveon & Daniel Caesar)

The best way to describe the song is breezy and laidback, which gives it features that make it a fantastic summer tune. However, it is plausible that it was published too soon to participate in this race. The song was first released in April of 2021, and it has had its fair share of the chart’s top 10. However, it is possible that it will not chart long enough to make it through the summer.

Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars & Anderson Paak) – Leave The Door Open

We all know that Bruno Mars never fails to deliver. Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak, better known as Silk sonic, have just produced a single that has already become a success. The song “Leave The Door Open” took some time to gain popularity, but it has now dominated the music charts for two weeks in a row, segregated by a month. The song is gaining traction and appears to be on its way to being one of the top ten songs of the summer, but it may face the same problems as peaches. Being released at an inopportune time.

For now, my conclusions are hard to make and we cannot predict the next few weeks. A new song might come and knock us off track or a song might fade out before summer arrives. However, Olivia Rodirigo’s Good 4 U and BTS’ Butter are in a head to head competition for the lead, so there is a chance that one of them would take that summer crown.  Feel free to comment on your favourite summer song so far!
